Dear Friends and Supporters,
WOMAD Festival is one the biggest fundraising events on our calendar. Over the space of 4 days Madras Café and its amazing volunteers feed thousands of festival-goers: raising around 10% of Action Village India’s annual income. In the Madras Café tent, AVI has an information desk selling some of our beautiful, ethical gifts, and sharing information about the work we support in India. The festival brings Action Village India and Madras Café together in a tent for a few days of hard work and great fun, all in support of rural communities in India.
With WOMAD being cancelled due to the pandemic for the last two years we were all raring to go and very happy to spend time renewing old friendships and making lasting new relationships; all working towards raising funds to support our partners working on the ground in rural India.
Despite all the hardships of the global pandemic and the cost of living crisis in the UK, WOMAD 2022 was hugely successful.
Action Village India were delighted to welcome several new volunteers to our team, and we hope they will return in future years. We have been working very hard to source ethical and Fair Trade products (they arrived in the UK just a couple of nail-biting days before we were due to leave for WOMAD), and they were very popular on the AVI stall, helping raise much-needed funds to support the vital work our partners do.
The Action Village India information desk had a fresh new design that we hope honoured the beauty and energy of the street markets that are so much a part of India. It truly came alive with crisps, shampoo and pickle bags (which we bought from one of the project participants of the disability project in Tamil Nadu), hanging from its corrugated roof . We were so happy to get such warm feedback from so many people, as the whole team put a lot of love and care into making the space feel welcoming and attractive.
