Action Village India
Action Village India (AVI) is a small, UK-based charity that fundraises for Indian NGO partners to deliver programmes that will best assist the poorest and most marginalized sections of communities in rural India. AVI supports campaigns for social justice and equality on Gandhian principles of nonviolence.

You will be working hand-in-hand with a small and very agile team in the London office and as such the internship will be a fantastic opportunity to ground yourself in the basics of charity day-to-day administration, communication and event fundraising.

Job Description:
Location:             5 Balls Pond Road, London N4 1AX with an option to work from home on some days
Hours:                  2 days a week
Duration:             3-6 months
Timeframe:        Summer 2022

Job Purpose:
Action Village India has set up a new fundraising strategy last year to ensure a diverse range of activities to raise funds for our partners work in India. This mainly as fundraising from trusts and foundations is becoming more challenging. Part of the strategy is developing our trading. This to ensure higher sales but also to have a way to inform more people about the work of Action Village India and its partners.

Our trading consists of our online ethical shop and our cookbook. The shop sells carefully selected products, hand-made by artisans, many of whose craft is under threat. 100% of profits from the products’ sale go to Action Village India’s development projects and partners in rural India.

In 2021 Action Village India, in collaboration with Madras Café produced its second cookbook. The cookbook includes all-time favourite vegetarian recipes and brand-new vegan recipes. The book offers new inspirations to those who want to explore authentic Indian flavours served as a special thali with a twist: home-made Indian cooking that prioritises the environment without sacrificing pleasure, taste and is easy to make.

Currently Action Village India sells the products and cookbook both online and at in-person events. However, we are hoping to expand this to other shops and more events.

This internship will include researching and  developing ways to increase our sales on existing products and to increase our range of products. You will be working with the staff to create new partnerships with shops in the UK as well as producers in India.

Terms of Internship:
This is a voluntary position. AVI will cover travel expenses (from within London) to the AVI office in Dalston and lunch costs for days worked in the office (up to £10 a day). All expenses must be itemised and receipts provided.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1. Sales

• Research ways to increase sales online
• Research events which are a good match to sell Action Village India’s products
• Research shops/websites/organisations that could sell Action Village India’s products
• Develop partnerships with shops/websites/organisation to increase the sale of our products
• Support staff with putting partnerships into action and maintaining them

2. Products development

• Research new products for the shop
• Research new suppliers to work with
• Set up partnerships with new suppliers

3. Event Management

• Research and support Action Village India’s presence in suitable markets and fairs
• Research and develop events to sell our cookbook at book shops

4. Marketing

• Create posts for social media to promote the products
• Research ways to market our products better 

5. Office Support

• Assist in office tasks as and when required
• Support staff in administrating the existing online shop
• Send out orders from the online shop

6. General Responsibilities

• Abide by organisational policies, codes of conduct and practices

• Support and promote diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace
• Keep confidential any personal, private, or sensitive information
• Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post
• Get involved and pitch in where help is needed
