30 Years of Solidarity

30 Years of Solidarity with Rural India

Welcome to the exhibition for our 30 year celebration of Madras Café at Womad Festival.  What started as a chai and leaflet stall 30 years ago is now a beloved institution of Womad Festival: feeding over 4000 in 4 days and raising (over 30 years) more than half a million pounds towards supporting development projects in India through the collaborations between Action Village India and Partners.

Action Village India and volunteers from Madras Café have come together to create an exhibition celebrating the solidarity and partnerships of the last 30 years…and onwards into the future!  This is a collaboration that has significantly contributed to Partners improving access to rights and livelihoods for women, men and children in marginalised communities across rural India, so that they can live in more fair and just communities.

We invite you to see the work done, and progress achieved, through a timeline we’ve created highlighting significant events for Madras Café, Action Village India and our Partners in India.  What started with humble origins of an India interest group, has now grown to all that you see around you in the Madras Café tent; and reaches its branches out over minds, hearts and miles to enrich thousands of lives in the UK, the most remote parts of India and beyond.

Please enjoy the Village Matters newspaper to read in depth articles from the Action Village India archives, messages from Partners old and new, and our hopes for the future.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this exhibition – it could not have been done without you all!
